SOLAR. STORAGE. FLEXIBILITY. 2026
Islamabad, Pakistan | 4-5 August 2026
Organized by: Renewables First (RF), Global Solar Council (GSC), Pakistan Solar Association (PSA)
Pakistan is undergoing one of the fastest consumer-led solar transitions globally. Solar imports grew nearly fivefold in a single year, and distributed solar PV is estimated at 38 GW as of FY25, approximately 93% of the country's entire utility-scale capacity. This growth has been driven not by utility planning, but by households, businesses, and industry responding to affordability pressures, grid unreliability, and falling technology costs.
Recent geopolitical disruptions, including volatility from the US-Iran conflict have reinforced the strategic importance of energy security. Distributed solar and storage are now resilience assets, not just affordability solutions. Pakistan has reached an inflection point that offers lessons for other Global South countries navigating similar transitions.
This conference convenes policymakers, regulators, utilities, financiers, technology providers, and international partners to reposition distributed renewables, storage, and flexibility as core pillars of future energy systems and to operationalize the reforms needed to get there.
Key outcomes
- A nationally relevant pathway for distributed renewable integration, prosumer regulation, and flexibility markets.
- Frameworks for utility-led flexibility and storage, and for evolving utility business models toward grid coordination and platform-based roles.
- Fiscal and regulatory recommendations on taxation, tariff design, and circular-debt pressures shaping distributed energy markets.
- Global–local partnerships for technical cooperation, financing pipelines, and capacity building.
